Clay is only available to students and members.
We have a few types available in the studio by StarWorks, Highwater, and Kentucky Mudworks Clay. Please select the type you would like below. Once purchased we will set aside with your name on the bag for use. All clay purchased includes bisque fee.
STAR White 6
This is a good all-around cone 6 clay body that can be used for wheel throwing, hand building and slab work. The color is a buff white when fired to cone 6.
Cone 6 Shrinkage 11.8%, Absorption 2.24%
STAR Brown 6
This is a good all-around cone 6 clay body which is great for wheel throwing, hand building and slab work. The color is a rich medium brown when fired to cone 6.
Cone 6 Shrinkage 12.1%, Absorption 1.68%, Contains 3% Fine Mullite
STAR Red 6
This cone 6 clay body is best for wheel throwing and hand building. It is not as suitable for slab work. Local red clay gives this clay body a rich red brown color when fired to cone 6.
Cone 5-6 Shrinkage 12.8%, Absorption1.92%, Contains 3% Fine Mullite
Raku
Raku is extremely versatile. In addition to standing up to the abuse of raku firing, this clay body performs well from earthenware to mid-stoneware range. Contains 13% medium kyanite for tooth and stability.
Cone 06-6 Shrinkage 6.5%-10.5%, Absorption 15.2-1.9%
Iceman ^6
KyMudworks premium white clay body. A cool white stoneware that is the durable and a pleasure to throw. Does not get too soupy if you throw with a lot of water. Super plastic throws and handbuilds well. Matures cone 5-6. Can be pushed to cone 7 slow fired.
Shrinkage 11.0% Absorption at ^6 less than 0.5%
Iceman with Grog ^6
This is the same clay body as Iceman, but with 6% added grog for increased tooth. More forgiving than standard Iceman, it is a fan-favorite for larger throwing projects and hand building. Also, for potters who just like a little more "structure" or texture to their throwing clays. See Iceman description below for more information.Fires to a very light grey/off-white.

Speckled Turtle ^5-6
A warm brown speckled plastic clay good for all forming techniques.Offers nice warmth tones at cone 6 and gives a reduction look to glazes.
Shrinkage 11.5%, absorption cone 6 less than 0.5%
JBC Mix
A mix of all the clays we carry in the studio! This clay fires a light tan with specks, but can vary in color depending on the mix available to pug.
Cone 6 Shrinkage 10-12% Absorption ~3%
